Transcendental Blasphemy
“Slight Figure of Speech” by The Avett Brothers - Music Video
- Directed by Jody Hill (whose Observe and Report was not so good, but whose Eastbound & Down is so good)
- I’ve listened to most of The Avett Brother’s new album (I and Love and You) and it’s solid. Best tracks are “I and Love and You” and “It Goes On and On” and “Slight Figure of Speech”, but the whole album is worth a listen.
- Features Andy Daly, who is very funny! He is funny in Eastbound and Down and his track on the Comedy Death Ray album is the funniest thing ever (pretty much)!
- “Hey, who am I…? I, I, I don’t know, I’m just a cool guy”

Good Things
- Comedic actor in dramatic role
- “All My Friends” by LCD Soundsystem
- LCD Soundsystem doing the soundtrack for the film
- Directed by Noah Baumbach, who directed the really great The Squid and the Whale
Bad Things
- Don’t care for Ben Stiller, but I do love comedic actors taking deeper roles. I don’t like Jim Carrey in a lot of his comedies, but his performances in The Truman Show and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind are two of the best performances ever.

'The Magicians'

'Persepolis'

'Vantage Point'
Stuff I Read/Watched on Nov. 23rd, 2009
- The Magicians - Novel - One of my new favorite books; as much about fantasy novels as it is a fantasy novel. About how childhood dreams dictate our expectations, and our expectations dictate our happiness. - A
- Persepolis - Film - A-
- Vantage Point - Film - C-
New Left Media - “I’m an American, And I Support a Public Option”
This guy is great. You should also check out his tearing apart of the Teabaggers. He does it in such a polite, non-confrontational, logical way. This guy’s kind of my hero. Jon Stewart, have this guy on The Daily Show.

Some thoughts on the newest It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia:
People complained about the heavy product placement, and boy was it heavy, but you know what? I didn’t mind it one bit. I thought it was a hilarious episode, easily better than last week’s. If anything, the product placement shows how brilliant the guys are, because they managed to turn an obvious ad (“If you’re looking for a better steak in an arcade setting, you are shit out of luck.”) into a huge laugh. Also funny: Charlie thinking “Closed” meant “Coors”.
But the best line goes to Mac: “I don’t know enough about stars to dispute it.” in response to Charlie’s statement that garbage fumes turn into stars.
Also hilarious: “We’re crab people now! We’ll live and die by the crab, we’ll eat off the fat of the sea.”
If a show is willing to make me laugh this many times, I will watch no matter how much of an advertisement it becomes.

This is possibly my favorite commercial ever. According to this post, it’s by the director of the film Sin Nombre, which is supposed to be good, but I have not yet seen. But knowing the director of this directed that, I’m going to have to check it out.
My favorite shot is of the business guy in his office. I don’t know how, but if he could make a black & white film based on this ad, that would be the best.
Also, the poem is “America” by Walt Whitman, who kicks ass (duh). The other, similar but color commercial features his poem “O Pioneers”.

Haven’t laughed this hard in a while. Excellent work from Samberg and crew.
Mad Men - “Guy Walks Into An Advertising Agency” (Ep. 306)
- Love all the exchanges in this. Don and Joan, Don and Sally, Don and Peggy, Don and Connie, Joan and her husband, Joan and Peggy, Betty and Sally, etc.
- One of the best episodes of the show.
- Love the Bob Dylan at the end.
- I love the expansion of Don and Sally’s relationship this season. It’s my second favorite relationship on the show, after Peggy and Don.
- Great ‘holy fuck’ moment.
- “A tragedy with a happy ending. My favorite kind.”
- “But that’s life: One minute, you’re on top of the world, the next minute, some secretary’s running you over with a lawn mower”
- “He might lose his foot”_____”Right when he got it in the door”
